After Varanasi, now underground power cables to be laid at Haridwar

Dehradun: Union Minister of State for Power, New & Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) Mr. R. K. Singh laid the foundation stone of the work for laying underground electricity cables in Kumbh area of Haridwar, under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IDPS) at Rishikul Ground, Haridwar on Friday. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat presided over the programme. Secretary, Power Radhika Jha delivered the welcome address for the guests at the programme. She informed that under the IDPS, the project to lay underground power cables in Kumbh area of Haridwar has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 188.75 crores.

After Varanasi, Union government has given approval for laying underground cables in Haridwar. In Kumbh area, 25 kilometer 33 KV and 62 kilometer 11 KV, a total of 87 kilometer HT Lines are proposed to be laid underground. Under the scheme, total of 70 kilometer LT Lines are proposed to be laid underground. For laying underground cables in the proposed area, 50 kilometer street light underground lines has been proposed and there is provision for installing 1250 Heritage Street Light Poles. With an objective for uninterrupted power supply and making power system more secure in Kumbh area, 26 Compact Substations and 206 RMU have been approved in the scheme.

Notably, for laying underground cables in the entire Kumbh area in Haridwar, Union Power Ministry was sent a DPR for Rs 594 crores, out of which Rs 188.75 crores have been approved. During the programme, conceding the request of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat, the Union Minister of State for Power, New & Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) Mr. R. K. Singh said that for the scheme additional amount of Rs 200 crore would be sanctioned in two years. Mr. Singh also announced that Power Finance Corporation, Union Government, New Delhi, under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), would provide Rs 10 crores for one identified work in Haridwar.

During the programme, Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik were present at special guest. Apart from them, Adesh Chauhan, Deshraj Karnwal, both MLAs, State BJP President Ajay Bhatt, State Incharge BJP Shyam Jaju, Haridwar Outgoing Mayor Manoj Garg and President & Managing Director, Power Finance Corporation Rajiv Sharma were present.
