Wipro's headcount declines by over 3k in 3 months

In line with the layoffs plaguing IT industry, India’s third largest IT company Wipro has reduced its head count by over 3,000 in the second quarter.

The company, that had 1,66,790 people working under it at the end of June quarter, saw its workforce down by 3,031 (1.8%) to 1,63,759 at the end of the second quarter ended September 30, 2016.

The maximum reduction in the headcount of the company came from the its core sector, as its sales and support staff has increased marginally to 14,880.

The Business Process Services (BPS) attrition in the company has increased notches by 70 basis points to 13.5% on the quarterly basis, the requlatory filing of the company revealed.

However has not announced hiring of any new employees during this quarter in any of its filing with markets.

Earlier, IT major on Tuesday reported a 5.57% rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs 2,189.5 crore for the September quarter.

The Bengaluru-based bellwether had registered a net profit of Rs 2,073.9 crore in the year-ago period. Its gross revenue declined by 2.49% to Rs 13,43.4 crore during the second quarter.

The company has also crossed the milestone of $2 billion revenue in IT Services in the USD terms. IT Services Segment Revenues for the company in dollar terms were $2,013.5 million.

Earlier this year, in first quarter, Infosys had also reduced its head count by 1,811 (0.9%) from 2,00,364 to 1,98,553 employees
