Torrential rain wreaks havoc in Mangaluru, Udupi

Torrential rain that lashed Mangaluru on Tuesday morning wreaked havoc by flooding a number of the roads in the city. The rain that started around 9 am, caused inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians.

Many low-lying areas in the city witnessed flooding and water entered several houses, and making it difficult for residents to stay inside.

Flooding occurred in Pumpwell, Ambedkar Circle, Kodialguthu, Kottara Chowki, Attavar PVS, Kadri Kambala, Adyar, Ekkur, Alake, Panjimogeru and other areas.

Majority of the roads in the city were ankle deep in water either due to lack of storm water drains or due to choked drains.

Bailuru gram panchayat member Sheela Nalke (35) died after lightening struck her at her house in Basthrishale in Bailuru in Karkala on Monday late night.

Meanwhile, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis has declared holiday for schools in Udupi district on Tuesday and Wednesday.
