DR Zaidi Stresses for an Inclusive, Error Free Electoral Rolls with Voter Centric Orientation

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Nasim Zaidi emphasised the need for an inclusive, error free rolls, having a voter centric orientation along with the focusing on institutional strengthening at Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) level. Dr Zaidi said this while inaugurating the two day Annual Chief Electoral Officers’ Conference of all States and Union Territories organised by Election Commission of India (ECI) , which got concluded here today.

Dr. Zaidi talked about the need to strengthen the mechanism with regard to election management while holding steadfast to the age old electoral value of free, fair and peaceful elections. He underlined the need to inculcate attributes with regards to election management that will enhance the transparency and accountability aspects of the entire electoral process.

The objective of the conference was to review performance with regard to ongoing election related programs as well as to explore new initiatives and improve the election management and voter experience.

Speaking at the occasion , Shri A. K. Joti, Election Commissioner emphasised on the use of technology for streamlining the electoral process and emphasised on the significance of GIS system. He also flagged voter awareness, expenditure monitoring mechanism and the use of IT as important areas of attention for election administrators.

Welcoming the participants in his opening address, Shri Vijay Dev, Deputy Election Commissioner (ECI) talked about the Conference being an opportunity for all stakeholders present to improve upon the varied aspects of election management including the EVM, VVPAT, Training, Electoral Roll, MIS, Voter awareness and media oriented issues.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Nasim Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner of India and Shri. A.K. Joti, Election Commissioner of India. Senior officers of the Commission also participated in the Conference by giving presentations on pivotal issues like Voter awareness, Strengthening of CEOs offices, Expenditure monitoring, Electoral Roll, EVMs & VVPATs along with issues related to media including Paid News and Social media etc .
