Since 26 December, the star has held various meetings with his fans in Tamil Nadu and post the death of Jayalalithaa, there has been a huge vacuum in the state’s politics. Will Rajini become the people’s leader that MGR was or is too much being read into his words?

Superstar Rajinikanth addressed his fans on Tuesday, 26 December, in Chennai at the beginning of a six-day outreach that is expected to end with him revealing his political debut.
