Cleanliness, employment & education are mission of state government: Minister Kaushik

Dehradun: Urban Development, Rajiv Gandhi Urban Housing, Census, Reorganization and Election Minister Mr. Madan Kaushik, while addressing a gathering during a workshop on cleanliness held at a hotel in Dehradun, said that that cleanliness, employment and education are the mission of the government. He said that cleanliness, employment and education has to be clubbed together. He said that cleanliness program is also providing employment opportunities to the people. He said that alongwith disposal of garbage through solid waste management, energy and plastic can also be generated. He added that for this, the private companies under CSR and various NGO’s must come forward in the form of role models. In this regard, he cited the example of Indore, which is leading city in cleanliness. In Indore, the big companies under CSR and NGOs, in coordination with Municipal Corporation and local bodies, have pledged to keep their city clean.

Mr. Kaushik said that capacity building was required for cleanliness programs. Big companies, under CSR and NGO’s, have to select small and big local bodies and develop it into model city in terms of cleanliness. This would lead to other companies and NGOs following suit.

 He said that the Joshimath, under solid waste management project in year 2010 had started producing fertilizer. He added that Taatwalah village in Haridwar, with the assistance from NGO, government schools are being developed like the private schools. A computer centre has been set up here and employment opportunity has been created. Rural people here are being given the message of the cleanliness. The rural women of the village have been made self dependent after opening a sewing training center. NGO in Tehri district under the cleanliness program has introduced door-to-door collection and set up collection centre and stress is being laid stressed on fertilizer and plastic business usage. He said that in the coming years, the entire state would be linked fully with the solid waste management.
