BSF camp near Srinagar airport attacked, two militants killed

Uncategorized

Gunfire and explosions rang out of a paramilitary complex close to Srinagar airport on Tuesday morning after an attack by militants, according to police that later said two of the gunmen had been killed while forces engaged the others.

“One militant has been killed and three jawans have been injured,” said inspector general Muneer Khan, adding that at least two more militants were seen to have been hiding inside a building.

Around an hour later, police sources said another militant had been killed.

“The residential quarters of BSF is safe”

Militant group Jaish e Mohammed claimed the attack on the Border Security Force facility, which comes a little over a month after an identical incident in the state capital’s police lines on August 26 when 8 security personnel were killed by the outfit.

An Indian Air Force base and a CRPF camp are situated close to where the attack took place. Morning flights out of the airport were cancelled, and staff and passengers were initially stopped at Humhama chowk a few kilometres before the entrance.

Later, people were allowed into the airport but flights had yet to start.

According to Khan, suspicious movement was noticed in the Humhama district after gunshots were heard. The firing at the BSF 182 battalion camp was first reported around 4.15am.

While security forces closed the road leading up to the airport, Khan said the facility was secure. Security personnel deployed near the Srinagar airport after the attack on Monday. The attack came days after unidentified gunmen killed a BSF jawan at his residence in Bandipora district.
