New Delhi: In a strongly worded article on Justice Loya death case and the impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra by the opposition parties, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said the impeachment motion is a “revenge petition” after the falsehood of the Congress was established in the Justice Loya death case.
Mr Jaitley said the impeachment notice is “an attempt to intimidate a judge and send a message to other judges that if you don’t agree with us, fifty MPs are enough for a revenge action.”
In a Facebook post, Jaitley said the judgement “exposes every fact of the conspiracy to generate falsehood as propaganda in the public and political space” and never before in the past have “national political parties, a few retired judges and some lawyers have come out as conspirators pursuing a certain falsehood.” The Union minister also said it has been seen that “institution disruptors” have evolved from public interest crusaders in courts who “pick-up even false causes and pursue the falsehood with a sense of commitment, indulge in intimidating advocacy, are shrill with their opposing colleagues, impolite with the judges.”
Disturbed SC asks for AG’s assistance
The Supreme Court on Friday described as “unfortunate and very disturbing”, the recent public discussions of the proposed impeachment of the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and sought the assistance of the Attorney General to decide a PIL seeking guidelines on such discussions in the media and by legislators.
A bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan made this observation during the course of hearing of a PIL filed by NGO In Pursuit of Justice, which sought a restraint order on such discussions.
Senior counsel Meenakshi Arora said these discussions amounted to tarnishing the image of the judiciary. The bench said, “We are very disturbed about what has been happening…it is very unfortunate what is happening. We will seek the assistance of the AG to examine this matter.” (Deccan Chronicle)
