Police released on Saturday sketches of two suspects in journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder but said authorities had yet to find links to any hardline organisation.
The 55-year-old Lankesh, known for her anti-establishment stand, was gunned down outside her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar area in Bengaluru on September 5.
The Karnataka government formed a SIT headed by inspector general of police (intelligence) BK Singh to probe the killing that led to outrage and protests across the country.
Addressing a press conference, Singh said the investigation team could not ascertain the religion of the suspects “by external appearances like tilak or earrings” as they could be a deliberate ploy to mislead the probe.
Seeking cooperation from the people, he said police have the video of the recce done by the suspects before executing the crime.
He said officials investigated about 200-250 people in connection with the case.
Reports had earlier indicated that those questioned included people close to Lankesh, like her brother Indrajit who had a falling out with her in 2005 over the functioning of Lankesh Patrike, and Maoist leaders who have come above ground.
