A 22-year-old Pakistani man, who was nabbed during the early hours on Tuesday from along the International Border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district, was sent back to his country after Indian officials contacted their Pakistani counterparts.

The Pakistani national, identified as Ali Raja, a native of Pasroor in Sialkot district of Pakistan’s Punjab province, was nabbed in Suchetgarh area of RS Pura, officials said.

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer told Hindustan Times that the man was repatriated on Tuesday itself.

Intelligence sources said that after questioning him, the BSF contacted Pakistan Rangers and informed them about the man.

“After their verification procedure, Pakistan Rangers admitted that the man belonged to their country. He was handed over via the Octroi post in Suchetgarh,” a source said.

The BSF also seized some Pakistani currency from him.

Early Tuesday, BSF personnel noticed the man trying to sneak into the Indian side under the cover of darkness and subsequently arrested him near the border fence.

Last month, BSF troops scuttled a major infiltration bid and unearthed a 14-foot-long tunnel across the border in nearby Arnia sector.

The unfinished tunnel, approximately 3-foot high and 2.5-foot wide, on the slopes of the bank of the Dhamalla nullah, was detected on September 30.

A US-made compass, 60 rounds of ammunition, a hand grenade and other items, most of which had Pakistani markings, were found in the tunnel.
