Impact of ‘Make In India’ Initiative on leather sector

New Delhi: Under ‘Make in India’ Action Plan, it was envisaged to provide training and placement to 3 million unemployed youth for all stages of leather development.  During last three financial years i.e. 2014-15, 2015-16 & 2016-17, a total of 4,27,865 unemployed persons have been provided skill development training and out of such trainees, 3,45,676 have been employed in leather and footwear industry under Human Resource Development (HRD) sub-scheme of Indian Leather Development Programme (ILDP). The Year wise status of training and FDI inflow are as under:-

            The draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Market) rules were notified on 16.01.2017 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected by it within 30 days. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry was not specifically consulted.

The Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri C.R.Chaudhary gave this information in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
