India State Action Plans Garner Accolades at the India COP-22 Pavilion

New Delhi: The India Pavilion, situated halfway at the COP-22 Corridor proved to be the cynosure of all eyes, yet again. The beautifully laid out Pavilion came for appreciation by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye. Congratulating Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and the Government of India, on their climate-centric initiatives, he appreciated the technology-driven initiatives of India.

As part of the side-events which are becoming the educative and informative highlights of this COP, India organized two sessions on Day 4 under thematic area Implementation of State Action Plans on Climate Change. Minister, Water Conservation and Protocol, Shri. Ram Shinde, Government of Maharashtra and Shri Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Yasar Sah also visited the India Pavilion and attended the sessions held today at India Pavilion.

The first session hosted by UNDP India foccussed on ‘Innovations to enhance climate actions at sub-national levels’. The audience were informed that States in the country are adopting policies and incentivized low-emission and climate-resilient infrastructure serving as “innovation labs” for climate action. State initiatives like “Jalyuky Shivar Project” from Maharashtra and Manipur’s “Model carbon positive eco-village in Phayeng sanctioned by National Adaptation Fund was also appreciated by the gathering at the Pavilion. Bihar, Meghalaya and Puducherry also informed the gathering on the gains made through their state level initiatives.

Special Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri. RR Rashmi, highlighted the evolutionary concept of National Missions of National Action Plan on Climate Change and emphasized the need to preserve & scale up the resources which are depleting at faster rate gave the keynote address of the Session.

The second session of the side event hosted by GIZ India was with the objective to share experiences related to institutional and policy drivers for promoting State level Actions on climate change towards implementation of SAPCC in India. The states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Union Territory of Chandigarh shared informative presentations on afforestation, adaptation and mitigation co-benefits, benefits of carbon sequestration, low-carbon technology which was well-received by the audience at COP-22.
