Navodaya Vidyalayas Uphold the Spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, Blending Education with Values – Krishna Kumar Yadav

Education is the light through which a prosperous, capable, and Viksit Bharat can be built. Despite being a Government institution, Navodaya Vidyalaya stands at the forefront today due to their excellence in education and outstanding examination results. Navodayans are making their mark not only across India but around the world in diverse fields such as politics, administration, medical, engineering, academics, corporate, defence services, as well as various professional services, business, and social services. The journey of Navodaya, which began on April 13, 1986, with just two Navodaya Vidyalays, has now expanded to 661 institutions. Navodaya is now completing 40 years of its establishment. A nationwide network of over 17 lakh Navodaya Alumni is ready to guide society towards a new direction. Inspired by the principles of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Shiksharth Aaiye, Sevarth Jaiye,’ (Come to learn, Go for serve) instills a sense of nationalism that transcends caste, religion, and region. These views were expressed on ‘Navodaya Foundation Day’ by Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, an alumnus of Navodaya Vidyalaya and currently serving as Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region.

One of the pioneer in Civil Services from Navodaya Vidyalaya, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, shared his experiences that after being selected in the prestigious Civil Services Examination by the Union Public Service Commission in 2001, he has served in various parts of the country over the past 24 years. However, he emphasized that had he not studied in a Navodaya, he might not have reached this position. Shri KK Yadav expressed pride in being a part of Navodaya and acknowledged its significant role in shaping both his personality and career. He highlighted that Navodaya taught them that dreams are not merely to be seen but to be lived—with struggle, discipline, and dedication. Although it has been more than three decades since he passed out from Navodaya Vidyalaya, the same sense of attachment and belonging still remains strong. Navodaya has given them so much, and it is now time to “pay back to society.”

Recently selected in Top 25 Changemakers of 2025 by Bureaucrats of India, Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that most Navodaya students, who generally come from rural backgrounds, have achieved remarkable heights today, and the credit goes to the core spirit of Nav Uday—where all differences such as caste, religion, rich and poor, and urban and rural are set aside, and everyone moves forward together with a positive mindset towards a new path. Navodayan spirit is a priceless bond that holds a special place in the heart of every Navodayan.  It is not merely a group, but a unique family where, despite belonging to different states or districts, the emotion, sense of belonging, and sweetness of shared memories remain the same for all. Indian Postal Service (IPoS) Officer and a renowned author and blogger, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that Navodaya Vidyalaya play a pivotal role in shaping India’s bright future. The Navodaya family continues to remain strongly connected, with people deeply bonded to one another. The way Navodayans stand by each other in times of happiness and sorrow not only inspires admiration but also instills a deep sense of pride.

Postmaster General, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, said that with the spirit of “Hami Navodaya Hon”, Navodaya has today emerged as a strong brand. Navodaya has not only provided high-quality education to talented children from rural India but has also instilled in them self-confidence, values, and a deep sense of service to the nation. The vision of Navodaya Vidyalaya is “to provide good quality modern education—including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities, and physical education—to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas, without regard to their family’s socio-economic conditions.” The motto of Navodaya Vidyalaya, “Pragyanam Brahma,” is a Mahavakya from the Aitareya Upanishad of the Rigveda, translating to “Consciousness or knowledge is the ultimate reality.” This reflects Navodaya’s firm commitment to delivering high-quality education.
