Union Home Minister to inaugurate new building of Central Detective Training School (CDTS), Ghaziabad today

New Delhi:  The Union Home Minister, Shri. Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the new building of the Central Detective Training School (CDTS), Ghaziabad today. The CDTS Ghaziabad was established in June 2016. It is a training school under the aegis of the Bureau of Police Research and Development BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs. It has a mandate to provide in-service training to police investigation officers in the ranks of Sub-inspector to Dy.SP, by imparting latest knowledge of scientific techniques and best practices in investigation. The police officers from the States of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and various others Central Police Organizations are trained at CDTS Ghaziabad.

Since inception, the various CDTS branches have conducted 146 courses and trained more than 9,000 Police Officers. These trainings were conducted in the areas like ‘Investigation of Cyber Crimes’, ‘Interrogation Techniques’, ‘Investigation of Organized Crime’, ‘Handing of Terrorist Financing and FICN’, ‘Mobile Forensics’, ‘Investigation of Economic Offences’, ‘Investigation of Crimes against Women’, ‘Investigation of NDPS Cases’, ‘Crime Scene Investigation’, ‘Collection and Preservation of Digital Evidence’, and such courses which are relevant to enhance the investigative skills of Police officers to meet new challenges of crime investigation.

The new building of the Central Detective Training School Ghaziabad has been completed at a total of Rs.65.14 Crores. The work commenced in December 2013 and the construction was completed in 30 months (June 2016). The CDTS is built on 8.37 acres and consists of one Administrative Block, Training Block, Hostel Building, Guest House, Hostel for Women, an Auditorium, Badminton Court, Gymnasium and residential quarters. The National Building Construction Corporation [NBCC] has constructed this state-of-the-art training institute.

On this occasion the Union Home Minister, Shri. Rajnath Singh will also give away the trophies and medals to the best Police Training Institutions and police trainers. During his address to the 33rd National Police Training Symposium in September, 2014 at Jaipur, Shri Rajnath Singh had announced introduction of the following awards:

(1) Union Home Minister’s Trophy for excellence in police training.

(2) Union Home Minister’s Medal for excellence in police training to best police trainers.

He tasked BPR&D to prepare the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for awarding both the medal as well as the trophy to the best police training institutions and police trainers respectively. Accordingly, SOP was prepared by BPR&D and approved by MHA.

The trophies have been instituted at the national level for CAPFs and States/ UTs in three categories, viz. Gazetted Officers (GOs), Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) and Other Ranks (ORs). The award for the National level winners includes a trophy and Rs. 20 lakh for infrastructure development of the training institute. The Director/ Principal/ In-charge of the winner training institutes (with the maximum working tenure during the year of assessment) will be conferred the Union Home Minister’s Commendation Disc for excellence in training.

Trophies have been instituted at zonal levels for State/ UT Police as well. It is from zonal champions of State/UT Police that national champion for State/ UT Police is selected. The award for the six Zonal level winners includes a trophy and Rs. 2 lakh for infrastructure development.

Union Home Minister’s Medals for excellence in police training have been instituted to recognize the services of police personnel dedicated in training in various Police Training Institutes in the country. These medals are distributed among different States/ UTs/ CAPFs/ CPOs in proportion to the sanctioned strength of the police in that State/ UT/ CAPF/ CPO. For the year 2014-15, names of 153 police trainers conferred this medal by Union Home Minister has been announced. Among these 153, seven officers will be given the medal tomorrow.

As such, awards of Rs 1.5 crores will be given away by the Union Home Minister in order to honour and motivate the police training institutions which have excelled and also the police trainers who have served with devotion and dedication in various Central and State police training institutions.
