Lalu Prasad discharged from AIIMS, sent to Ranchi hospital; leader cries conspiracy

Uncategorized

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Monday morning requested the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Delhi (AIIMS) to defer his transfer to a Ranchi medical establishment as his health was yet to improve.

He was discharged from AIIMS later in the day. “This is unjust. It is a conspiracy to (let my health) deteriorate. I am being shifted to a place where there are no facilities. It is a tough time, but I will face it,” ANI quoted Prasad as saying as he was discharged from the institute.

AIIMS decided to refer the 69-year-old former Bihar chief minister to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Ranchi after a medical board confirmed a marked improvement in his condition. Prasad was being monitored by a team of specialists from the endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology and surgery departments during his stay at the premier medical institute.

The letter written by Prasad to the AIIMS director stated that he suffers from elevated sugar levels and blood pressure, besides kidney issues. It also alleged that the transfer was being done under political pressure.

“All of you will be responsible if there is any danger to my life due to my transfer from AIIMS to RIMS,” Prasad said, adding that he should not be forced to make the 16-hour journey from Delhi to Ranchi until he was declared completely healthy.

However, AIIMS has stated that there is a significant improvement in Prasad’s medical condition. “He is being referred back to Ranchi for management of his chronic issues. He is currently stable and fit to travel,” the hospital said in a statement.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had called on Prasad at AIIMS earlier in the day. The two leaders reportedly discussed the Bihar politician’s health during their half-an-hour meeting.
